Mumbai, Feb 3: In an effort to make Indian Postal service more attractive and up-to-date with present times, the popular Postal department has decided to offer postal stamps printed with a person's picture on it.
Assistant Post Master General Shriniwas Vyavahare has been quoted as saying to agencies, "The offering, on first come first serve basis, will be launched in Mumbai during the Kalaghoda Cultural Festival starting Feb 4. Till Feb 11, Mumbaikars can choose from over 17 template designs for printing the stamps with their pictures that can be even used as an official one."
He added, "We had introduced this offering in a New Delhi exhibition last year. Looking at its popularity we organised a similar initiative in Pune last month and are now organising it in Mumbai."
Speaking on the unique idea, Vyavahare said that the stamps can be used for gifting purposes and can have headshots of friends, relatives and family members on the stamps. The 12-stamp sheet can be purchased from the India Post stall at the festival for Rs 300.
